Asun Eastwood “Reality rap without the Backpack”

Carrying on tradition

While many may be unaware the hip hop scene has been in good hands. Many Mcs have been putting out the type of music enthusiasts claim to want. Releasing music with lyricism, cleverness, creativity, and production that matches. Asun Eastwood is one of those Mcs carrying the Torch. The Canadian raised Belizean born artist brings descriptive rhymes, clever word play over eerie & gutter beats.

Asun was heavily influenced by New York Hip Hop culture which reflects in his music. However, even with this influence he brings his on aura & persona to his artistry. His family background introduced him to different types of music from Reggae, Calypso to Punta. His Dad also listened to artist like Run D.M.C, and Ice T.

The early 90s rap would be his official introduction to the culture with him becoming a major Wu Tang Clan fan. He also would take several trips to NYC and got a chance to soak up the energy during these times being that he had family in the state.

His journey in music starts with doing talent shows, making his way in the local scene, and being in a group. Eventually becoming a solo artist he honed his skills and credits “Nimbus” as his first official album release. Released in 2017 the album features well known Mcs in the game like Conway the Machine, Skyzoo, and fellow Canadian Daniel Son.

The first album I would come across from Asun would be a collaboration with Upstate Mc M.A.V “98 Miles” produced by Sibbs Roc. This instantly caught my attention, and I went on to check his other works “The S.O.U.L”, “Prophecy Is My Present” “Bite The Bullet” with Daniel Son. I was happy with all these releases, so in 2022 I was ready for his new albums and he delivered with “The Complex” produced by Wavy Da Ghawd & “Buffalo Rapchaz” with DJ Mercilless. Asun has worked with some of today’s most respected Mcs like Benny the Butcher, Rome Streetz, Estee Nack, Rigz, Rasheed Chappell to name a few. 2023 you can expect him to continue carrying the Torch for the culture.
