HLM MEDIA presents BOSSCHICKS RULE: Q&A series conducted by BossChick Raine featuring MRS. JP
Artist: MRS. JP
Q: How long have you been an artist? and when did you feel you started taking your craft seriously?
A: I have been an artist since I was born. I have been creating music since I was 6 through writing rhymes
and composing piano pieces. I started taking my Art seriously in 2019 when I started recording,
performing and releasing music on platforms.
Q: Who are some of the other artists or people that inspire you? Whether they are peers or otherwise?
A: DMX has had the greatest influence on me as an artist, through his own music he taught me that no
thought is too outlandish, if it’s in your mind its most likely in other people’s minds also; someone will
relate just be yourself and be genuine. J Cole is also one of my favorite artists his flow is impeccable, and
his vocabulary range is vast anytime I listen to those two I am inspired to write rhymes IMMEDIATELY.
Q: What are your goals as an artist? How far do you want to take your craft?
A: My goal as an artist is to be timeless. To leave behind works of art that last beyond my physical time
here. I am here to inspire, to hopefully leave a blueprint on everything from making it through a tough
day to rising above your circumstances to building wealth and reinvesting. My craft will be left behind in
my music and will go far til infinity.
Q: How often do you record? or create? Do you rap or create daily?
A: At the very least I write weekly, I write down rhyme schemes as they come to me. In a perfect month I
will write daily but if I’m not writing I am memorizing rhymes daily. I record at least twice a month. I
practice raps daily.
Q: What are some obstacles you have faced on your musical journey? And do you ever feel like giving
up?
A: I can’t really complain, I haven’t faced many obstacles when it comes to my musical journey. But I have
had a learning experience, where I had to learn that unfortunately there are male producers that will
lure you in under the guise of making music and helping you with your sound, only to get you alone and
take advantage of the lone time. I have not felt like giving up. I won’t. I just put one foot in front of the
other like everything else, to keep the machine moving.
Q: Who are some of your dream collabs?
A: My dream collab was DMX, some other collabs I would love to have are with J. Cole, Jay-Z, REMY MA, A-
Boogie, Trap Manny, Sheff G, Jenn Carter, Lil Kim.
Q: What message are you trying to send to the world through your music?
A: My message is to be you. I’m not here to preach or teach or send anything I just am. Just like everyone
else, I am. I am expressing to the world my experiences as me and it will resonate with those who it
resonates with that you are not alone, there are other people who think like you or who have the same
unpopular opinion.
Q: Do you have a project that you are working on?
A: Yes, I am working on a visual story boo with my music as the soundtrack. Hopefully nobody swipes that.
