There has been a lot of talent coming from Upstate, NY in the last couple of years in the rap scene. Buffalo’s Jae Skeese is another Mc you can add to the list. He’s been in the circuit since 2019 putting out music, networking and working on his craft. His consistency would help him get the attention of Griselda’s Conway the Machine aslo a Buffalo native. This would lead to Jae signing to Conway’s label Drumwork.
I got put on to his music while interviewing one of his producers Cartune Beatz. He definitely brings many aspects in his music, he’s drawn influence from Mcs like Nas, Prodigy, Jay Z, also he states Nelly’s debut was the first tape he purchased. When listening to his music you can tell he has passion for the art.
He mentions writing short stories as a child helped with his writing. You’ll find different flows, song tempos, topic driven songs, with a good amount of bravado, and storytelling in his music. What also stood out to me was his diction, his vocabulary is vast, and it doesn’t sound like him just throwing words together.
His album and song titles also show he puts thought into his craft, also his project with the Metal Gear Solid theme shows it as well. The creativity applies to his visuals also.
He released his official debut album “Abolished Uncertainties” on 3/24/2023 which carries the theme from his other projects with diverse songs, beats, and top tier rhyming. Setting the album off with “RVLVR” sort of an I’m here now vibe, where he demonstrates his hunger. On “Burner Phone” Jae is in his Pocket of creative story telling as he touched a subject from another angle. “Lunch Table” he’s expressing many of his thoughts with daily life and some reminiscing. “EKIN 3” another good showing as he continues his series with showing his love for Sneakers through song.
Overall the album is a great listen and a good way to start if this is your first time listening to Jae Skeese. He established his own identity and sound. Buffalo remains in good Hands with its next crop of Mcs already set
