In today’s climate it’s always a pleasure to discover Mcs like Y.N.X 716. I came across his collaboration album with another talented artist Aaqil Ali. Together they released “Dusty Souls”, which is a great listen. Songs like “Open Letter” “Darkest hour” “Ghetto and Scriptures” display his versatility, thereafter I’d check out more of his music.
A lyricist from the emerging Buffalo, New York scene Y.N.X cites artist like Nas, Scarface, Lloyd Banks and Outkast as inspirations. His passion plays a major part in becoming a lyricist that captivates your Ear and takes you on a musical journey that you will never forget. Throughout his music you can expect very descriptive writing and conceptual songs, but this isn’t to say he doesn’t provide light hearted music. He mentions the importance of “delivering a clear message that the people can relate to”.
His 2018 project “Hennessey Memories” would be his first official introduction to the music audience. This album showed his willingness to be vulnerable and set the tone for his listeners to see his growth. When asked he says “Monopoly” or “Rap Fans” would be a good start for new listeners. I can also add songs like “Belly 2”, “Mumble Rap” and “Borderline”. He has also worked with some prominent Mcs from Buffalo like Conway the Machine, Jae Skeese, and El Camino.
With the rapid releases of projects from artist today Y.N.X releases music every quarter, making sure to keep the people in tune. He shows the importance of consistency and time as an artist. In 2023 you can expect him to continue to release quality albums, also he aims to travel and have his music placed in films.
